About ChathamChatham County is located in the Piedmont area of North Carolina. The Town of Pittsboro is the County Seat. In 2014, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated the county population to be 68,698 as the population of the northeast region has grown considerably. The county is part of the Durham-Chapel Hill, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill Combined Statistical Area, with a population of 1,998,808 (2012 U.S. Census Population Estimate). The county is divided into 13 townships and three towns: Goldston, Pittsboro, and Siler City. Preston Development Company is currently developing CHATHAM PARK, a new planned community in the Pittsboro area. Chatham Park will be spread across 7,200 acres to become a new corner of the famed North Carolina Research Triangle region. When fully developed, this new community will add 60,000 people, 22,000 homes, schools, offices, and 22 million square-feet of commerce space, including clusters of corporate businesses, research facilities, as well as retail and restaurants.
